Der Sugilith – ein kostbarer Schatz der Natur

Sugilite, often spelled sugilite, is valued by connoisseurs and enthusiasts as an exceptional natural stone due to its special properties.

As a gemstone, it is now a real rarity. Sugilite necklaces are all the more of an absolute rarity.

In addition to its fascinating, intense and unmistakable purple color, it attracts attention above all due to its rarity, making it a true gem in the world of precious stones.
It only became increasingly well-known in the trade from the 1990s onwards, but the original mine from which this rare stone was extracted has been exhausted for around a decade.

For this reason, there are now many sugilite imitations on the market that have been altered by means of coloring or artificial treatment and have little in common with genuine, unadulterated sugilite.

Our range deliberately focuses on authenticity and quality: we only offer genuine and untreated sugilite as a gemstone for our unique sugilite necklaces.

But what does this actually mean in detail? It guarantees that all our sugilite necklaces are completely natural. The stone remains in its natural state, without any form of artificial influence, be it through coloring, oiling or treatment with colored resin.

In nature, sugilite findings are often accompanied by a variety of other minerals, which makes it an even more fascinating natural phenomenon. These accompanying minerals include albite, apatite, biotite, pectolite, zircon, aegirine, richterite, allanite, andradite, titanite and quartz. The presence of these accompanying minerals can be seen in some of the beads in our sugilite necklaces, giving the jewelry a lively appearance and a particularly fascinating, natural look. Each individual bead is a small work of art in its own right.

Entstehung und Wissenswertes über den Sugilith

Sugilite, a member of the cyclosilicate group, was first discovered in Japan in 1944. It owes its name to Ken-ichi Sugi, the Japanese petrographer who was the first to scientifically describe the mineral.

Sugilite has a Mohs hardness of 5.5 to 6.5.

The most important site for this mineral is the Wessels Mine near the town of Hotazel in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa (not inaccurately pronounced "hot as hell" by jokers).

There are other locations on the island of Iwagi in south-eastern Japan as well as in Namibia and India. However, the sugilites from these regions are unsuitable for jewelry making. They are often small in size and have no distinctive coloration.

Sugilite from the Kalahari Desert, on the other hand, is known for its impressive violet coloring, the intensity and shading of which can vary, creating fascinating plays of color.

The absolute top quality of sugilite is known as"gel sugilite". This slightly translucent material is one of the rarest gemstones of all and is therefore particularly sought-after.

Die Sugilith Halskette – ein magisches Schmuckstück

The mesmerizing beauty of a genuine sugilite necklace is something that never loses its magic and allure, especially with its intense, deep purple hues that immediately catch the eye.

My own journey with this particular stone began some 35 years ago when I first encountered it. I was still a teenager at the time and could hardly say that gemstones were at the top of my wish list, especially not one as precious as sugilite, which was anything but cheap even then. But the magical aura of the stone wouldn't let me go, and in the end there was no hesitation: I simply had to take it with me.

Since then, this gemstone has accompanied me through my life and always manages to inspire me anew. Its radiant, deep purple hues create a deep sense of joy in me.

For this reason, when selecting our sugilite stones for our necklaces, we attach great importance to ensuring that they are untreated and 100% natural. The purity and originality of the material are an essential part of their charisma and uniqueness.

The quality and therefore also the value of a sugilite necklace is measured by various criteria. Among the most important are the color intensity of the stone, the diameter of the beads and their carat weight. Sugilite beads with a larger size and a particularly brilliant coloration are rare, however, which is reflected in their price.

In our online store, you will always receive exactly the sugilite necklace that is shown in the product images in the respective offer. Each necklace is made with the utmost care and love in our own workshop, making each piece truly unique. As the precious purple stone has a comparatively low Mohs hardness, we recommend careful care to preserve its beauty in the long term. For example, avoid cleaning in an ultrasonic cleaner, as this could damage the stone.

You should also avoid bringing your Sugilite necklace into contact with chemicals or aggressive substances such as perfumes or sunscreen.

Our sugilite necklaces are also particularly popular as valuable gifts for special occasions - whether for loved ones or as a piece of timeless beauty for yourself. In our store, you will find a large selection of different designs and models that are guaranteed to suit every taste. Immerse yourself in the world of sugilite and experience the magic of this incomparable gemstone!
