Citrin Schmuck – ein Symbol purer Lebensfreude

The radiant yellow citrine stands for pure joie de vivre like no other gemstone. With its warm color palette, it conjures up a sunny and friendly atmosphere just by looking at it. Together with rock crystal and amethyst, citrine is one of the most popular gemstones and is particularly popular with those who like to surround themselves with precious stones. Citrine is a member of the quartz family - but more on that in a moment.

The name of the yellow citrine comes from the Latin word "citrus", which means "lemon". In this case, the expression "nomen est omen" fits perfectly, as this name refers to the characteristic yellow color of the citrine gemstone, which is reminiscent of the radiant yellow of lemons.

Citrine is an extremely popular gemstone, whether as a necklace, pendant, sparkling earrings or elegant bracelet. Thanks to its high Mohs hardness of 7, it is ideal for jewelry making and can easily accompany us through all everyday activities. Due to its high hardness, citrine is quite robust as it does not split.

Wissenswertes rund um den gelben Edelstein

As already mentioned, citrine belongs to the quartz family and is chemically a silicate, as it consists of the mineral quartz. It is one of the macrocrystalline varieties of quartz and often occurs together with amethyst.

The natural mixed form of amethyst and citrine, known as ametrine, is particularly interesting. In high-quality specimens of this mixed form, the two types of quartz are arranged in separate zones, which creates fascinating color transitions.
The characteristic yellow to yellow-orange coloration of citrine is created either by the inclusion of iron oxide or iron hydroxide. These substances absorb light in the violet to blue wavelength range, which is responsible for the warm hues of the stone.

Its color palette ranges from soft yellow to strong yellow tones and bright orange.

However, many commercially available citrines are burnt amethysts or smoky quartz.
A natural citrine is usually a soft yellow, while the darker varieties are rather rare.

The more intense Madeira citrine is characterized by particularly strong hues that are created exclusively through heating. In this process, the citrine is heated to around 250 degrees.
