Der Geburtsstein im Juni: Der Mondstein

Moonstone captivates with its soft radiance and mysterious shine, which occurs in numerous variations. Within the feldspar family of moonstone, there are specimens ranging from pink to grey, with iridescent rainbow colors or a transcendent translucent white shimmer, as is the case with Ceylon moonstone.

But then there is also an exotic member of the family, a mixture of sunstone and moonstone. This unusual rarity can have a shimmering appearance reminiscent of shimmering cat fur and can appear in shades ranging from ochre to grey.

Strictly speaking, the gemstone known colloquially as moonstone or rainbow moonstone is actually a white labradorite from a gemological perspective.

When the moonstone is formed, thin layers of liquid rock are deposited on top of each other, creating the characteristic colored optical effects. The light that hits the stone is scattered and appears on its surface as a fascinating, moving shimmer or in shades of blue or rainbow colors. There are also variants in soft pink, peach, brown and shades of gray.

A rather rare effect is the cat's eye moonstone. In this case, a narrow strip of shimmering light runs across the stone, reminiscent of the narrow pupil of a cat. This effect is particularly beautiful in cabochons. The interesting effect is created by the reflection of light through very fine particles that run parallel.

Due to the mysterious silvery and blue-white light, people used to believe that the moonstone was miraculously created by the rays of the moon. It is therefore hardly surprising that the moonstone is considered sacred in India. Its name in Hindi translates roughly as "loved by the moon". This can be seen as a poetic declaration of love to the moon and its mystical presence, which also influences our emotional life.

Geburtsstein Mondstein Wirkung:

The effect of the moonstone is extremely versatile. Even in ancient times, the Greeks believed that it had supernatural powers and could strengthen intuition. For this reason, moonstones were often worn as necklaces. The moonstone was also used for lucid dreaming and divination, for example by placing it under the pillow as a gemstone.

The moonstone and its close relative, the shimmering labradorite, played an important role in the design of jewelry during the hippie movement of the 1960s. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, these stones were considered desirable healing stones and were often prized for their inspirational properties, especially when it came to encouraging creativity. Their fascinating psychedelic appearance perfectly matched the free spirit and love of freedom of the time.

The close connection between the moonstone and the era of freedom, love and cultural upheaval in the 60s is hard to deny. A particularly popular combination of those years was the fusion of moonstone and silver in jewelry. Both materials share a deep symbolic relationship with the moon: moonstone, with its mystical aura, and silver, traditionally regarded as the metal of the moon in alchemy, complemented each other harmoniously to create jewelry that was not only visually stunning but also carried spiritual meaning.

The birthstone of the month of June, the fascinating moonstone, casts a spell over everyone with its mysterious shimmer and is always an appreciated gift for people born in June.

This extraordinary gemstone is one of the most popular gemstones. Thanks to its extensive color palette and unmistakable appearance, it appeals to a wide variety of tastes.
