Beryl occurs opaque and in varying degrees of transparency. From a certain quality (color intensity and transparency) one speaks gemmologically of gems. The most popular varieties are the green emerald, the blue aquamarine, the yellow beryl (also Heliodor) and the pink morganite (named after the New York banker John Pierpont Morgan) and colorless goshenite.
